At Piazza Vetra, in the historic center of Milan, there is an unusual place. It’s Teatro Vetra, which on October 1st was full with the most outstanding figures of the culinary world. Many people waited for this evening – it was time for the Best Chef Awards 2018 gala to begin.
Antonius Caviar had the pleasure to be one of the partners of this extraordinary event. This is another year when not only we followed the results of the competition, but also had the opportunity to present our caviar to the most successful chefs from around the world.
Did the verdicts surprise the audience at Teatro Vetra? Certainly not, at least when it comes to the winner of the top 300 ranking. Joan Roca won the first place, just like last year. His famous El celler de Can Roca in Girona has been one of the brightest points on the gastronomic map for years. It has been awarded three Michelin stars and is one of the busiest cellars in the world (table reservations should be made about a year in advance!).
Chef René Redzepi from Noma 2.0 in Copenhagen got second place (he moved up from 22nd position of last year’s ranking). The last on the podium – David Muñoz – once again had to settle for third place. This Spanish chef, famous for serving dishes on canvases, certainly has not said his last word yet.
Among the top 300 chefs were representatives of 41 countries from around the world. Two Poles were selected, Modest Amaro was 209th and Marcin Popielarz was in 280 position (promotion from position 291). Unfortunately there were no other representatives of our country that appeared in last year’s ranking: Adam Adamczak, Jakub Hartlieb, Paweł Stawicki and Jean Bosa. We keep our fingers crossed for a quick return!
The winners of the other cathegories:
- The Best Chef City Gourmet (the best restaurant in the host city): Andrea Aprea – VUN Andrea Aprea (Park Hyatt Hotel);
- The Best Chef Rising Star: Floriano Pellegrino i Isabella Poti – Bros’, Lecce, Italy;
- The Best Chef Fol-LOVERS: Grégoire Berger – Ossiano, Dubai;
- The Best Chef Pastry: Antonio Bachour – Puerto Rico (he currently works in Miami, USA);
- The Best Chef Lady: Emma Bengtsson – Sweden (she works in New York, USA);
- The Best Chef FoodArt: Matt Lambert – Musket Room, Nowy Jork, USA.
Congratulations!
We would like to thank all those who attended the event for their interest in black gold from Poland. Is was an honor and a real pleasure to offer a tasting of Antonius Caviar for such valued chefs. We really appeciate all opinions about our products and we look forward to new culinary compositions with our caviar!
